In many ways, the formation of Internet Broadcasting and its Channel 4000 site for WCCO radio & TV established the standard for economic viability of local media sites on the Internet. It was the first to create a model for a local media site that works. Its founders were Internet visionaries, and its alliance with WCCO gave it early credibility and success.
Editor & Publisher Interactive reviewed the Channel 4000 business model in an article titled First Profitable TV Web Site, which details how the site gained 300,000 visits a month—a benchmark for early web success stories.
The Star Tribune offers one of the most comprehensive local news sites on the web, while the St. Paul Pioneer Press has evolved into a strong free-access site that complements its print version.
A directory called Ultimate TV lists all Minnesota television stations, while more than a dozen Minnesota newspapers are featured in the Newspaper Association of America’s directory.
